Site: Lecture on the United Kingdom’s Economic and Political Landscape

Main takeaway: The US and UK have many similar problems.

This morning, I woke up way too early. I had time for a nice walk in Regent’s Park.

Our event for the morning was a lecture on UK economics. I don’t think any of us were too excited at the idea, but it turned out great! Our lecturer, Tim Woods, was very dynamic. He clearly both knows a great deal and cares a great deal about his subject.

The Four Horsemen of the UK Economy:

·        COVID-19

·        Brexit

·        The Russian invasion of the Ukraine

·        Mistrust of the UK economic and political system

Like the United States, the UK also has an aging population, with all the attendant problems of people leaving the workforce and needing more medical care. They also have an issue with “polarization” of wealth, with wealth becoming more concentrated in a small group. There are large disparities of life expectancy, based on geographic location and economic status.

I didn't take any pictures of the lecture, so here are some pictures from my morning walk.
